Violence & Scariness

More Information

As part of a circus act, Pippi defeats the Mighty Adolf by tweaking his nose, pulling his ears, throwing him around, etc. but in a very light-hearted way. There are two thieves in the show who go to steal Pippi’s gold but comically fail. There are two comedic constables who sing a song where they mention “If it gets too dangerous, we say 1-2-3-bang!” They chase Pippi in an effort to get her in a children’s home for orphans. A song mentions Pippi’s pirate dad possibly in danger but then befriending cannibals.

Potentially Anxious Moments

More Information

We learn in the first song of the show that Pippi’s mom passed away, but she presents it in a very positive way. We also learn her father is at sea
and Pippi misses him, but he returns later in the show. Because Pippi lives alone, Children’s Services try to take her away. In a circus act, Pippi swings her horse by the tail. Pippi places a whoopie cushion on Mrs. Prysselius’ chair. Mrs. Prysselius tries to convince Pippi to live at her house and help her with chores. Tommy and Annika express great sadness when saying goodbye to Pippi. See “Violence and Scariness.”

Other Things to Know

This play is based on the book series by the same title by Astrid Lindgren.
There are 3 references to alcohol in songs, but playfully (for example: during the pirate song).
There will not be an intermission.

NCT puts together tips to help families and schools prepare their children for their experience. Numbers indicate the “score” of each category – 1 representing a small amount and 5 representing a large amount. Education Staff will continue to update these tips on our website as the show may change throughout the rehearsal process.

Social Story

A Social Story is a tool to help improve a child’s understanding of expectations during an unfamiliar event. They were originally designed to support neurodivergent individuals. However, this can be a useful tool for any person who is unsure about what to expect from a new experience.
