Frequently Asked Questions

Your resource for all things NCT.

Visiting NCT

Our address is 25 Middleton St., between Hermitage Ave and Second Ave S. We are on the Richard Fulton campus, next to the Old Howard School Building.

NCT has a free parking lot right next to our building with additional parking behind the theatre or along Middleton St. We share the parking lots with Metro offices; please be aware that parking may be limited at times due to Metro meetings and events.

NCT is located just south of downtown Nashville in a popular visitor area. New establishments open all the time; please check Google Maps or another locator service to find the most up-to-date list.

A few of our kid-friendly favorites are:

  • Crema Coffee: 15 Hermitage Avenue
  • Pinewood Social: 33 Peabody Street
  • Husk Nashville: 37 Rutledge Street
  • The Goat SoBro: 211 Elm Street

…And many more on and around Broadway, just 7 blocks from the theatre!

NCT’s Hill Theatre seats 542.

NCT performances usually do not have an intermission.

While our show content is appropriate for a broad age range, we know that young people often need to move around or talk during an hour-long performance.

NCT’s Sensory Room and lobby are open during all performances, and provide a welcoming, safe space for children and parents to take a break from their theatre seats.

If you plan to bring a child under the age of 4, consider purchasing tickets closer to the back of the auditorium and near the aisle. This will make it easier for you and your child to move to the Sensory Room or lobby if your child needs to regulate during the production.

Our Parent Tips and Show Information page will help you evaluate each production by:

  • Themes for Social and Emotional Learning
  • Language
  • Violence and Scariness
  • Sensory Advisories
  • Potentially Anxious Moments
  • Other things to be aware of

Ultimately, parents make the very individual choice about what is or is not appropriate for their children. We are always happy to talk to you about upcoming shows and answer your specific questions. Please Contact Colin Peterson or Jacqueline Komos at 615-254-9103 during business hours.

We typically sell simple snacks and beverages in our lobby before the show, and you may bring your purchases into the theatre. Concessions are not available when masking is required inside the theatre.

NCT shows typically run between 60 and 75 minutes. Check the show’s dedicated page for any exceptions.

2 and Under: For shows in The Hill Theatre, children aged 2 and under do not require a ticket, but must sit in a grown-up’s lap.

Snuggery: When attending a Snuggery performance (ages 0-5), everyone needs a ticket, no matter what age.

Parent Tip: If you plan to bring children under the age of 4 to a performance, please consider purchasing tickets closer to the back of the auditorium and near an aisle. This will make it easier for you and your child to move to the comfort room or lobby if your child grows restless during the production. It will also ensure that you, your child, and those around you are able to enjoy the experience of the performance.

2 and Under: For shows in The Hill Theatre, children aged 2 and under do not require a ticket, but must sit in a grown-up’s lap.

Snuggery: When attending a Snuggery performance (ages 0-5), everyone needs a ticket, no matter what age.

Parent Tip: If you plan to bring children under the age of 4 to a mainstage performance, please consider purchasing tickets closer to the back of the auditorium and near an aisle. It is preferred that coupons and vouchers be redeemed in person at the Box Office. If you are unable to visit our Box Office when needing to make a reservation in advance, please contact the Box Office by phone at 615-252-4675. In most cases, a reservation can be made and you will be required to bring and submit the coupon/voucher at the Will Call window when you pick-up the tickets. For a few specific vouchers, only in-person redemption is allowed.

Season Members can exchange any ticket free of charge by calling our Box Office at 615-252-4675.

Non-member guests may exchange for the same title with a $5 fee per ticket.

All ticket exchanges are subject to availability at the time of exchange.

We require that you call at least 24 hours before the date printed on the tickets you are exchanging.

Once the date on your tickets has passed, the tickets are invalid and cannot be exchanged.

If you’d like to exchange for an earlier ticket date, we’d be happy to help.

We get it! Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. If you arrive late, we’ll do our best to seat you in the best available seats at an appropriate moment in the performance. In order to minimize distractions for other patons, we can’t guarantee reserved seats for latecomers.

Tickets for missed performances are not exchangeable or refundable.

Tickets are not refundable, but feel free to bring them to the box office before the show. If we can resell your unused tickets, the value can be considered a charitable gift to NCT, tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Our shows often sell out, so we highly suggest ordering tickets in advance! Ordering tickets early ensures the best seat selection, too.

Drama School

Most families register for Drama School camps and classes online at our Drama School page. If you don’t have access to a computer, we will happily help you register. Call Matthew Hayes Hunter at 615-252-4658.

If you have additional questions about drama class or camp registration, contact Matthew Hayes Hunter at education@nashvillect.org.

No. NCT camps and classes are a great fit for children with and without prior stage experience. Certain classes and camps have prerequisites, but you’ll find options for all ages and stages.

NCT’s camps are offered during MNPS summer break, spring break, or fall break dates. Camps typically meet daily for one week.

Classes are held once a week over multiple weeks, and meet Saturdays during the school year.

NCT will issue a refund for cancellations made at least two weeks before the first day of class, less a $50 fee. Within two weeks of class, refunds cannot be provided. If you wish to transfer your child’s reservation, NCT can transfer your child into another available offering if notified at least two weeks prior to the start of class. There is a $25 transfer fee. To cancel or transfer a reservation, contact Matthew Hayes Hunter at 615-252-4658.

We at Nashville Children’s Theatre (NCT) are committed to the safety and well-being of all students and staff. NCT has put in place specific measures to ensure our class and camp experiences are safe, comfortable and fun for everyone.

Theatre is a team sport and we must ALL play our part!

  • NCT will be monitoring COVID-19 and will notify families of any changes to our policies as soon as possible.
  • Currently masks are welcome, but not required, while indoors.
  • Snack and lunch breaks (if applicable) will be taken outside.
  • True HEPA Air purifiers will be placed in each room.
  • NCT’s air conditioning systems are MERV-15 compliant with iWAVE and ultra-violet attachments.
  • COVID-19 Policies and Procedures are subject to change.

If a student at camp exhibits symptoms during the day, that student will be moved to an isolated space and will remain under adult supervision until they can be picked up.

If a student tests positive, students in that classroom and associated Education staff will be notified.

Students who test positive cannot return to NCT until at least 5 days have passed after the onset of symptoms and their symptoms have subsided. Students who have tested positive must wear a mask for an additional 5 days after the initial quarantine period.

Regardless of vaccination status, if classmates of the positively-testing student become symptomatic, a negative test must be produced and can be emailed to education@nashvillect.org to attend class.

If a student’s family/household member tests positive for COVID, the student must be symptom-free in order to attend class, regardless of vaccination status.

In summary, if a student had a known COVID exposure and has become symptomatic, the student must produce a negative test to return. Test results can be sent to education@nashvillect.org.

Class sizes range based on age group and type of class. Most classes range from 10-16 students.

Yes. Please visit our Family Access Membership page for this information.

If a student has a fever, throws up, or exhibits signs of illness while at NCT, that student will be moved to an isolated space and will remain under adult supervision until they can be picked up. If your child exhibits symptoms of sickness before class, such as a fever or vomiting, please leave your child at home and email education@nashvillect.org to let NCT staff know your child will be absent.

Note that we are unable to prorate or provide refunds for missed classes.

To be placed on a wait list, add the preferred class(es) to your cart in our online registration system. You will not be charged tuition. If a space becomes available, our registration system will automatically email you, or a member of the NCT Education Team will contact you to arrange registration. Please respond as quickly as possible as most wait-list notifications expire after 24 hours.

NCT offers free extended care for our families. Before Care opens at 7:30 am and After Care closes at 5:30 pm. You can add this service during registration or on a day-to-day basis during the camp week. Extended care consists of supervised unstructured free time. Students are welcome to bring a book or electronic device (that NCT is not responsible for). Additionally, NCT provides coloring sheets, board games, marble towers, etc for students who are interested.  Also, during after care, we will also have a daily option of a G or PG-rated children’s movie playing as an activity choice.

In the case of inclement weather, NCT will hold classes as scheduled if staff are able to travel to the theatre safely. In the event that a class is canceled due to inclement weather, we will update our website, social media, and will email all class participants. We are unable to offer make-up classes or refunds for classes canceled due to weather.

For the safety and security of your child, we do not allow adults to watch the camps during the camp day. This simple rule helps us ensure that no one is here who should not be. In addition, the Teaching Artist can better guide the class dynamic and atmosphere.

To help prepare your child for their first day, see our Social Story (Saturday classes) | (Day-long camps).

For in-person camps, students will need to pack a snack and lunch each day of camp. We will break mid-morning for snack. Please pack a sack lunch that does not require refrigeration, microwaving, and adult assistance (such as orange peeling). Please also include utensils your child may need. Students may also bring their own water bottle. (We don’t recommend glass containers.) Scripts will be distributed to camps that require them. Students will be expected to return each day with their scripts.

Students should dress comfortably, but please, NO FLIP-FLOPS OR CROCS. Please be aware that our students move a lot, and sit on the floor for some parts of the class. Because of this we also ask for students to not wear boots – so that they can have a full range of motion.

For classes, parents/guardians will need to sign children in each day of class.

For day-long camps (break camps, mini-camps), an NCT staff member will walk your child from your vehicle at sign-in and to your vehicle at sign-out. This applies to aftercare as well.

If your student is participating in before care, an NCT staff member will meet you at your vehicle and walk the child into their proper before-care classroom.

Prior to the first day of class/camp, please confirm any medical concerns/needs for your child, as well as who may pick your child up. This information can be updated in your UltraCamp account here: http://bit.ly/NCTRegistration

No other individuals will be allowed in the building except for NCT staff, Teaching Artists, interns, and campers during the camp day. If you need to pick up your child at any time, you will be given a phone number in logistical emails and at sign-in to call so that an NCT Education staff member can walk your child to you.

To help prepare your child for their first day, see our Social Story (Saturday classes) | (Day-long camps).

Educators

Student group tickets for a field trip are $10/student. Ticket subsidy is available for MNPS as well as Title I schools.

One complimentary educator ticket is provided for each ten paid student tickets. If a student in the reservation requires assistance from additional school staff, then exceptions can be made.

Chaperone tickets are $20 per person if the adult is included in the school’s reservation. Adults who buy tickets outside of the school’s reservation will be charged the standard adult rate of $25 + ticket fees. NCT is not able to guarantee admission for adults outside of the school’s reservation.

If an adult is attending a weekday performance and is not included in the school’s reservation, then that ticket must be purchased on the day of the show, in person, and after all reservations have been accounted for.

NCT productions align with Tennessee Academic Standards, STEAM Practices, SEL Standards, and the 4 C’s of 21st Century Learning.

You can access the guides here.

For questions regarding curricular supports and information on workshops led by NCT’s Professional Teaching Artists, contact Jackie.

With prior notice, NCT is happy to facilitate a session for students to ask about the play or how certain theatrical tricks were produced.

Q & A’s can only happen after an 11:45 am performance. Between the conclusion of the 10 am performance and before the 11:45 am performance begins, the actors are busy preparing for their second performance and are unable to speak with audience members.

If you have already booked a Class Field Trip, please email Abby about requesting a Q&A.

Each mainstage show of the season offers one preview performance on the opening evening; that performance is our Educator Preview Event. Educators and a guest are welcome to attend this performance for free.

This FREE event includes a wine and cheese reception followed by a 45-minute workshop where NCT education staff members demonstrate lessons designed to explore some of the curricular connections of the production. This workshop qualifies for professional development hours in many districts and is intended for adults only (free child care is provided during the workshop).

The reception typically begins at 5 pm, the workshop begins at 5:15 pm, and the performance begins at 6:30 pm (unless otherwise noted below).
FREE CHILDCARE is provided during the reception and workshop only.
